JASP Application Socialization: Improving Mathedu Students’ Statistical Literacy in the Digital Era

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, a JASP (Jeffrey’s Amazing Statistics Program) application socialization event was held as part of the Community Service Program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Yogyakarta State University (UNY). This activity aimed to introduce and provide training on the use of the JASP application as an aid in statistical data analysis, both parametric and nonparametric.

The event began with remarks delivered by Rita Pramujiyanti Khotimah, M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the Mathematics Education Study Program. In her remarks, she expressed her appreciation to all Mathedu students, including the speakers, for organizing this event. She also emphasized that the JASP training is expected to improve Mathedu students’ data analysis skills in a practical and efficient manner.

Next, Dr. Eminugroho Ratna Sari, S.Si., M.Sc., opened the event. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of mastering modern statistical software such as JASP to support research and learning activities in both science and education.

Moderator Fitriana Yuli Sataningtyas, S.Pd., M.Si., moderated the event, which ensured a smooth and interactive flow. Following the opening, the event continued with presentations by three keynote speakers:

Presenter 1: Nur Insani, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D.
Delivered an introduction to the JASP application, covering the development background, user interface, and key features that support open-source statistical analysis.

Presenter 2: Dr. Retno Subekti, S.Si., M.Sc.
Explained parametric analysis using JASP, focusing on the application of t-tests, ANOVA, and regression, as well as the accurate interpretation of analysis results using JASP’s intuitive output interface.

Presenter 3: Indira Ihnu Brilliant, M.Stat.
Presented material related to nonparametric analysis in JASP, such as the Chi-Square, Mann-Whitney, and Kruskal-Wallis tests, and provided real-world examples of their application to social and educational research data.

All Mathedu students appeared enthusiastic throughout the event. The Q&A session was lively, demonstrating the students’ strong interest in utilizing JASP as an accessible and efficient statistical analysis tool.

The socialization activity concluded with a closing ceremony and a group photo session with all Mathedu students, speakers, and the committee. Through this activity, it is hoped that students will be able to apply JASP in research, teaching, and academic data processing in their respective environments.
